The African Development Bank (AfDB) is ready to raise funds for the construction of the Inga 3 dam, which is estimated to cost more than 22 billion US dollars for 11,050 megawatts. During his visit to the Inga site on June 20, 2019, President Akinwumi Adesina reiterated the AfDB’s commitment to assist the DRC in the realization of this vast project. Until then, the height of this funding has not been revealed.

« You have to catch up with time. The time of the speeches has passed », said the president of the ADB on the site where will be erected this strategic hydroelectric dam for Africa.

This new promise of support comes after the ADB has financed the feasibility studies for this project to the tune of 73 million US dollars. It is the result of the dynamism and pragmatism of the Head of State, Felix Antoine Tshisekedi with development partners including the AfDB.

In the space of seven days, the DRC has managed to mark an important step in this process. The presidential press circumscribes this progress in three main acts.

On Wednesday, June 22, 2019, on the sidelines of the general meetings of African banks in Malabo, the Head of State had pulled out the agreement in principle to finance, by the ADB, the work of Inga 3 presented as an integrating project. It was act I.

Act II, on Monday June 17, 2019, ADB President Akinwumi Adesina is in Kinshasa at the invitation of Congolese Head of State Felix Antoine Tshisekedi. The two individuals reaffirm their determination to give substance to the Inga 3 project, which can produce more than 11,000 megawatts, six times the current capacity of Inga 1 (360 megawatts) and 2 (1,400 megawatts).

Act III: Wednesday, June 19, 2019, the President of the ADB visited the site of Inga. Received by the staff of SNEL, he was amazed by this divine gift to the valley of Buindi where God has planned everything.

This pharaonic project is likely to satisfy not only the strong domestic demand of the DRC but also boost the industrialization of Africa by serving nearly half of the continent.
