Every June, the Forest Investment Program (FIP) presents its Annual Activity Report. It is in this context that a National Workshop of stakeholders and validation of the 2018 Report was organized this Saturday, May 25, 2019 at the Venus Hotel in Kinshasa.
This workshop is an opportunity for all stakeholders, including civil society, partners and government, to criticize and analyze the draft report that needs to be approved and passed on to those who are entitled to it.
This methodology has the advantage of allowing member countries and beneficiaries of the Climate Investment Fund to strengthen their project, to promote the responsibilities and this in order to obtain financing, which financing allows the countries to reinforce the activities for the protection of the forest and thus fight against climate change.
Content of the Report
The FIP focal point in the DRC, John Muloba, has taken a look at some of the achievements of the forest investment program for the year 2018. This includes the Improved agricultural performance that allows for better acceptance of restrictions on the use of natural resources. Private concessionaires also engage in these new practices with the support of PGAPF (Improved Forested Landscape Management Project).
In the province of Mai-Ndombe, the project has also implemented the innovative approach of Payments for Environmental Services (PES) with Local Development Committees and farmers.
This program manages two projects: the Improved Forested Landscape Management Project (PGAPF: $ 36.9 million), overseen by the World Bank, to test new approaches to improve community livelighoods and forested landscape management, to reduce gas emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in selected areas (Province de Maï-Ndombe, Kinshasa, Kwango, Kongo Central)».
And, the Integrated REDD + Project in the Mbuji-Mayi / Kananga and Kisangani basins (PIREDD / MBKIS: 21.5 million USD), overseen by the African Development Bank to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases from deforestation and forest degradation while fighting poverty in Mbuji-Mayi, Kananga and Kisangani.
