The salary arrears of the agents and executives of the Commercial Corporation of Transport and Ports (SCTP) will be blocked. Meanwhile, the government reassures that $ 2 million in cash for wages will be paid each month. The arrears will be in function of the revenues that will be generated. This was stated in essence by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, Azarias Ruberwa Maniwa.
The boss of the transport sector made this statement on the occasion of the official ceremony of putting back into service of the rehabilitated infrastructures and equipment of the SCTP, organized on Wednesday, August 14 in Kinshasa.
Meetings were held recently with representatives of the Ministry of the Portfolio, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Labor experts, and SCTP management and shop stewards. Objective: to examine thoroughly the problems that undermine this company.
« Exceptionally, as a Congolese state, we generated $ 6 million outflow due to $ 2 million a month in favor of the SCTP. We have also decided to block wage arrears and start to make sure that every month will be paid from now, relative to the company’s income. It is therefore possible to work properly. Work properly, it is possible to be a company – as in time – a rising star that can be the model of other companies. That’s what I invite you to do, « he said.
Azarias Ruberwa urged the staff of this state company to work conscientiously as their socio-economic situation depends on it.
« The more recipes there are, the more we will demand and mop up all the previous months. It will be necessary to prove that you worked hard and that the recipes vary more and more. You will be paid in proportion to your efforts, « he added.
The SCTP has been going through difficult times for years. The current cash flow situation does not allow him to meet all his expenses. Its production units, obsolete for the most part, put it in front of a situation where the financial health of the company is dying.
Formerly the heart of the Congolese economy, the SCTP (formerly Onatra) needs substantial financial support to get back up and play its role properly, that of secular arm of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
