Kinshasa and Brussels are on track to resume economic exchanges. This mutual willingness was expressed at the end of the day on Tuesday 17 September 2019 to the Federation of Belgian Enterprises (FEB). The Congolese Head of State, Felix Antoine Tshisekedi, met with around 100 Belgian entrepreneur-members of the Belgian employers’ association at their headquarters in Brussels.
Indeed, these Belgian businessmen have clearly demonstrated their willingness to contribute to the economic development of the DRC.
To achieve this, FEB President Bernard Gilliot said they need assurances on political stability, macroeconomic stability and good governance.
« We are fully aware of the scale of the challenges facing the new Congolese authorities. Just as we see many opportunities to boost economic relations between our countries, for the benefit of growth, employment and the well-being of our fellow citizens. This will include strengthening dialogue and partnerships between authorities and private actors, as we have seen at today’s meeting, » he stressed.
Responding to their concerns, the Head of State recalled the efforts undertaken to stabilize the eastern DRC. Regarding the consolidation of the macroeconomic framework, Félix Antoine Tshisekedi recalled the reforms under way and the creation of the national anti-corruption agency to ensure good governance.
