The African Cup of Nations (CAN-2019), which took place in Egypt, reported a $ 83 million profit to the African Football Confederation (CAF). The announcement was made by the president of this football body, Ahmad Ahmad, after the General Assembly held last Thursday in Egypt, reports the daily Al Ahdath Al Maghribiia the weekend of 20 and 21 July.
As regards the bonuses awarded to African selections, it was noted that they amounted to US $ 25 million, distributed as follows:
- the winner, in this case Algeria, was awarded 4.5 million US dollars;
- his dolphin, Senegal, received $ 2.5 million;
- Nigeria, 3rd in the standings and Tunisia 4th, each received 2 million US dollars;
- the teams that reached the quarter-finals earned US $ 800,000,
- those who simply qualified for the 8th finals benefited from 600,000 US dollars.
To believe the Malagasy, Ahmad Ahmad, the level of income this year is almost double the amount generated by the 2015 edition, which had taken place in Equatorial Guinea. At the time, the CAN had raised $ 49 million to CAF.
In 2017, during the Gabonese edition, the CAN had brought some $ 67 million to the African football body. The president of the CAF has also stated that the debt of the CAF amounts to some 20 million dollars while the cash shows a surplus of 20 million dollars.
