Good news for Congolese students and researchers. The number of scholarships China grants to the DRC has increased from 50 to 83 for the academic year 2019-2020. The announcement was made Tuesday, August 20, 2019 by the charge d’affaires near the Chinese Embassy in Kinshasa. This makes the DRC the second largest recipient of scholarships on an African scale.
On the occasion of this ceremony of awarding these scholarships to beneficiaries, Chargé d’Affaires Tu Wentao welcomed the multifaceted cooperation between his country, China, and the DRC.
« As an intimate partner of the DRC, China is always willing to respond actively to the needs and the call of Congolese society and to support as much as possible the training of young Congolese, » he said.
Same satisfaction from the Secretary General for Higher Education and University who thanked China while paying a tribute to President Felix Tshisekedi « for his constant concern to make Congolese youth his battlehorse. »
He further specified that scholarship recipients were selected on the basis of a rigorous criterion.
Among the lucky beneficiaries, there are 14 doctoral fellows, 41 for the master and 28 for the license. Of the total of 83 fellows, there are 56 men and 27 women.
