Five journalists awarded at the first « Forests for Environmental Journalism Competition. » The graduation ceremony took place on Wednesday 18 September 2019 at the European Union headquarters under the direction of the chargé d’affaires, Guillaume Chartrain.

This activity is part of the FORESTS project (Training, Research and Environment in Tshopo). It is funded by the European Union and aims to promote the development of the Yangambi landscape and environmental conservation. It also aims to train new cadres of forest experts in the DRC.

Presiding over the graduation ceremony, Guillaume Chartrain, Chargé d’Affaires at the European Union, said he was pleased to see journalists involved in environmental issues, issues that are very important to humanity.

He also encouraged Green Journaliste Network, a structure that brings together several journalists involved in these issues. And he recalled the partnership that exists between the European Union and the greens.

Out of 12 selected Congolese journalists, five won this competition.

The first place won by Thierry Kalonji who will be entitled to participate in the Global Landscapes Forum conference to be held in Accra, Ghana in October.

The second was awarded to Fifi Solange Tangamu, the third to Hervé Mukulu and two special mentions for Concilie Kalombo and Taty Mapuku.

These winners received a trip to Tshopo province in April 2019 where they received training in environmental investigative journalism. They also carried out a field visit.
