The third edition of the Indaba Alternative Mining is held in Kinshasa, capital of the DRC. « Year one: the mining code: application, opportunities » is the theme at the heart of these 72-hour sessions. The opening ceremony has just been held at Pullman Hotel Kinshasa.
Several delegates from different provinces of the DRC and other countries such as Senegal, South Africa, Zimbabwe, … take part. The objective is to evaluate the application of the Mining Code on the ground and to estimate the benefits that the different parties receive.
According to the special adviser to the Head of State in charge of Mines, the revision of the new mining code has had the merit of allowing the Nation, owner of the soil and subsoil, to benefit from its wealth.
This is why, he insisted, the Congolese government wishes through this conference to have the implementation of the Mining Code evaluated by the stakeholders.
For its part, the Ministry of Mines is preparing to launch a major extension campaign of the new Mining Code to improve the understanding of this legislation.
It will therefore be a question of highlighting the six pillars of this Code, namely: the management of mining titles and domains; corporate social responsibility; transparency ; good governance, the customs system; as well as the role of the Congolese State.
During this meeting, other cross-cutting issues will also be discussed. This is the case of mining royalties and mining craftsmanship.
For the organizers, the ultimate goal is to make effective and effective proposals to strengthen the implementation of the new mining code.
