Duty of accountability obliges, the president of the National Assembly of the Congo, Jeanine Mabunda Lioko has made restitution of his first mission abroad, which led successively in France and Côte d’Ivoire from 3 to July 10, 2019. She made this restitution during a meeting with the press, Friday, July 12 in the banquet hall of the People’s Palace in Kinshasa.

While in Aix-en-Provence in France she participated in a meeting of economists, it was discussed for her to take part in the Francophone Parliamentary Assembly (APF) held in Abidjan in Côte d’Ivoire. Common point of his approach: validly represent the colors of the flag of the DRC as part of an active parliamentary diplomacy.

For a « positive policy »

What model of economy do we want today for the people to complain less? This was the theme of the high-level meeting with economists in Aix-en-Provence, France. At this meeting of different schools of economic thought, the challenge was to confront how to solve the economic problems of a people.

The intervention of Jeanine Mabunda focused on the question: « Should the policy emancipate itself from the economy? » The debate began at the beginning of the statement that the people no longer trust his politicians. Because, at the base, this population believes that democracy alone is not enough as it does not solve all Their problems. Hence, the new concept of « positive politics.

To believe the president of the National Assembly, it is based on an economy that does not look at the macroeconomic outcome. It is also an economy designed and piloted so that all stakeholders can come together and their interests are taken into account. It is this proximity policy that summarizes the meaning of his mandate in the Office of the National Assembly.

« We do not play politics to defend a particular political camp. But, we do politics because we carry a project, a vision, an ambition so that all stakeholders can meet », said Jeanine Mabunda.

APF 2020 meeting in Kinshasa

In Abidjan, where she participated in the Francophone Parliamentary Assembly (APF), the President of the National Assembly gave credit to the DRC on its rather particular political situation. Out of rebellion, this country experienced for the first time a peaceful transfer of power. This is a model for other countries in the world.

« We are a little bit tired of hearing people stand up as censors against the DRC. It must now be known that the DRC, who was a poor student in December 2018, has become a good student in the Great Lakes Africa of strongmen », Jeanine Mabunda told reporters in the Banquet Hall of the People’s Palace.

In her capacity as representative of the people at the APF, Mrs. Mabunda and her colleagues made certain commitments :

  • to focus on young people from larger Francophone countries, including the DRC;
  • that the next meeting of the APF be held in Kinshasa in 2020. Because the DRC is an important and significant country in terms of its population;
  • to focus on topics that speak to the people.

This press café closed with a series of questions posed by a representation of the local press. Exercise to which the President of Parliament voluntarily submitted despite her busy schedule.
