Prime Minister Ilunga Ilunkamba chaired the economic situation meeting on Tuesday, October 01, 2019 at the Prime Minister’s Office. The meeting was attended by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Budget, Jean Baudouin MAYO; Elysée MUNEMBWE in charge of the plan; the Minister of State for EPST, Willy Bakonga; the Minister of National Defence, Aimé Ngoie; the Deputy Minister of Finance, Junior Mata and the delegate from the Central Bank of Congo.
The Minister of State and Minister of EPST at the Prime Minister’s request outlined the facts observed in public schools since the implementation of free primary education in the DRC. On this issue, the Budget’s VPM announced that at the next Council of Ministers, new adjustments and framework measures will be presented and analysed.
They also discussed some security priorities in eastern DRC that the Minister of National Defence submitted to the Head of Government.
The review of the note by the Governor of the Central Bank of Congo on deficit financing for the third quarter of 2019 was also on the table. In this regard, the Government is committed to covering this deficit, as this may have unfortunate repercussions until the end of 2019. Together with the central bank, they are committed to exploring ways and means to achieve this.
The draft Budget for the year 2020 was again discussed during this economic situation meeting. In this respect, the option will be definitively exercised during the Council of Ministers on Friday, before being tabled in the National Assembly’s office.
From now on, these economic situation meetings will be held regularly, their objective being to prepare the topics to be discussed at the Council of Ministers.
