Sustainability of Growth Requires a Strong and Balanced Production Model in the DRC and a Transformation of Structures, Former Prime Minister Matata Ponyo at a Conference on Leadership and Good Governance, Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at the Protestant University in Congo (UPC) in Kinshasa.

According to Matata Ponyo, a new economic model implies a change in the organization of economic activity in order to move from a rent economy to a modern economy based on the smooth functioning of markets and serving the collective interests.

It requires deep economic and financial reforms, new attitudes and behaviors, and new investments.

However, the man with the red tie is of the opinion that an economic model is a human construction, it puts in place by people who understand the need and the scope. Change must be well thought out, well designed (a question of leadership) and well operationalized (a question of good governance) to truly transform the economy.

There is a need, he said, for a development plan to plan for transformation, but it is also important for decision-makers to understand it and to know how to implement it despite possible resistance to change.
