DRC: the French Institute in Kinshasa lives to the rhythm of the African Music Forum

For two days, from 17 to 21 September 2019, music professionals working for African music will discuss the future of African music in the digital age. On the agenda: conferences, workshops and concerts. Organized at the initiative of the Bomaye Music label, the second edition of this forum aims to improve the working conditions of creators by promoting their work, which also involves collecting copyright.

Djo Moupondo, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Clique Music (a label that produces the artist Mohombi) and junior Luyindula, a lawyer in intellectual property and NICT rights, reflected on the theme: « Generating revenue through copyright in the digital age, collecting and distributing royalties: issues, challenges and opportunities« .

« The sector must be liberalized. We have a serious problem of trust between socoda and artists. The state must liberalize as in other countries to create emulation for this operator, the state must simply be regulatory and leave the management of copyright and related rights in the hands of private individuals, » said Djo Moupondo.

Junior luyindula asks that the laws should keep pace with the evolution of society, especially in the digital age. He would like to see more forums to provide information to artists.

A real forum that questions the future of African music and the creation of a real African music industry.
