The Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has raised a significant amount of funds on the local public securities market.
At the Treasury bond auction held on December 3, 2024, the State succeeded in raising $105 million, according to a press release from the Ministry of Finance.
“The Ministry of Finance proceeded, on December 3, 2024, with the issuance of Treasury Bonds one U.S. dollar. The total amount of bids is 105 million USD,” the press release states.
This operation attracted strong interest from investors, with a coverage rate reaching 875% of the auctioned amount.
Two bidders took part in the issue, testifying to the growing confidence in Congolese public securities.
The Minister of Finance, Doudou Fwamba Likunde, stressed the importance of this fundraising to support the country’s development projects.
The resources raised should be allocated to essential infrastructure and public services, helping to improve the living conditions of the Congolese people.
The Congolese government had initially planned to raise USD 120 million through this auction.
Despite this slight discrepancy, the amount raised remains significant and testifies to a booming local financial market.
The Treasury Bonds issued have a maturity of one and a half years, with an attractive interest rate set at 9%.
This combination is designed to appeal to a wide range of investors, both local and foreign.
The growing interest in Congolese government securities also reflects positive economic dynamics.
Previous issues have already been a resounding success, reinforcing the credibility of the DRC’s financial market.
The Central Bank of Congo plays a crucial role in this dynamic, ensuring the regulation and stability necessary for the smooth operation of the market.
Experts believe that these operations could attract even more foreign investment to the country.
Despite a public debt that has increased considerably in recent years, the economic outlook remains encouraging, with GDP growth forecasts supported by these financial initiatives.
