His answer to Top Congo FM’s question is clear: « Do not put the cart before the horse. Since 2015, we have not done a joint review of the DRC economy. So, we will begin by putting our sleeves up, getting to work and determining the economic situation together in accordance with Article 4. »
In reality, she added, it is an audit of the Congolese economy that will allow the IMF to establish strengths and weaknesses. Where should fiscal policies be improved? At what level and how should the situation also be improved in terms of social protection?
« And we will give appropriate advice to the President and his government. Then we will see if we can financially support the program of the president and his government, help in the form of a formal program », she said.
However, the formal program can not prevent both parties from getting to work as part of this partnership, the better the relationship reconnected.
« Finance Minister Henri Yav Mulang (governor-country) and some members of his delegation are staying here in Washington. And the mission of the IMF in charge of the DRC is ready to work as soon as Monday morning », reassured Christine Lagarde in the presence of Félix Antoine Tshisekedi.
With regard to budget support for financing the economy, the Executive Director of the IMF recalled the mission of the institution she manages to reassure her that she remains determined to support member states.
« When a complete audit of the economic situation has been made and if the President needs to put in place a program of support, financing for the economic improvement that is desired, that is all indeed », she concluded.
