On Monday November 18, 2024, Christian Bosembe, Chairman of the Conseil supérieur de l’audiovisuel et de la communication (CSAC), met with Jules Aligente, Inspecteur Général-chef de service, to request the intervention of the Inspection Générale des Finances (IGF) concerning the CSAC’s financial problems.
Indeed, the CSAC is facing a major crisis following the non-payment of operating costs and staff salaries for several months.
Christian Bosembe stressed that the IGF’s involvement is crucial to resolving these difficulties, which are seriously affecting the operation of this institution, which is essential to democracy.
“When the IGF gets involved, we always get results,” said Bosembe, stressing the urgency of the situation.
The CSAC Chairman expressed his hope that a swift intervention by the IGF would enable the CSAC to resume its normal activities.
“It was important for us to meet with the IGF, and I think it’s well known that when the IGF gets involved in a case, we always get results,” he stressed.
Jules Aligente promised to closely monitor the CSAC’s financial files to ensure that the institution can function without hindrance.
The IGF will play a key role in overseeing expenditure to ensure transparent and efficient management of resources.
This situation highlights the financial challenges facing CSAC, exacerbated by a lack of adequate funding.
Delays in the payment of salaries and operating costs could have disastrous consequences on the CSAC’s ability to fulfill its missions.
The members of the Steering Committee expressed their concern about the impact this financial crisis could have on freedom of expression and media regulation in the Democratic Republic of Congo. They called for a general mobilization to support the CSAC in this difficult period.
The meeting between CSAC and the IGF is a sign of hope for employees and stakeholders who expect a swift resolution to this crisis.
Collaboration between these two institutions is essential to restore confidence and guarantee a stable and free media environment.
The IGF’s involvement could be decisive in getting CSAC out of this financial impasse, enabling this vital institution to continue playing its role in promoting democracy in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
