DRC: Tshisekedi supports Mukwege for the Global Fund for Sexual Violence Survivors

The President of the Republic, Felix Antoine Tshisekedi, received, this Monday at the end of the day in New York, his compatriot the Nobel Peace Prize, Dr Denis Mukwege. At the centre of their one-on-one three-quarter-hour exchange was the implementation of the Global Survivors Fund.
« I am here in New York to raise awareness among countries on the issue of reparations. We have just had a good discussion on the subject with the President. I explicitly asked him that Congo should be able to participate in and support this global fund. He said he was in favour. I was welcomed with great warmth, » reported the famous Congolese gynaecological surgeon Denis Mukwege.
Indeed, this Fund, for which Dr. Mukwege and his Nobel Peace Prize co-laureate Nadia Murad have been actively advocating for its implementation for almost a year, aims to enable women survivors of sexual violence in wartime from all over the world to obtain reparations for the abuse they have suffered.
Its solemn launch is scheduled for 30 October 2019. Several countries such as Germany have already committed to participate and contribute. France has already subscribed for €6 million.
It is only natural that the Head of State should encourage the initiative of his compatriot, who, in his opinion, has provided a healthy job not only for Congolese women but also for women from other countries.

According to the Head of State’s Goodwill Ambassador, Luc Gérard Nyafe, Denis Mukwege will be honoured and decorated in Kinshasa not only for his Nobel Peace Prize but above all for what he has accomplished.
This enthusiastic meeting took place on the sidelines of the 74th United Nations General Assembly, in which the Head of State, Felix Antoine Tshisekedi, is taking part.
Dr. Denis Mukwege also travelled from New York for the same conference to raise awareness among decision-makers around the world about the scope of this Intercontinental Survivor Fund.
